Nasi Goreng

When I ordered 'Nasi Goreng Seafood', the waiter wrote it as 'Nasi Goreng Siput'.
I didn't even realized, until I paid and looked at the bill.
So what did I eat? Seafood fried rice or snail fried rice? Aiya...

Angry Bird Paper ball

Lego Time

Timmy's Lego creation.
He builds it from scratch without following any instruction.
Playtime & Imagination.

Helping Mom

It was a National Holiday due to Good Friday.

As for Timmy: Holiday means a day to help Mom with the house work.

He did it willingly & with smiley faces.
Thank you so much for your help Tim. I appreciate it.

It's the parts and parcel of teaching Responsibilities to him.
That this house belongs to us, and the responsibility to keep it clean lies on the shoulder of every family member, not just on Mom's hand.

Ah...I still have a lot to learn as a Mother.
It's a long journey...
and I am still learning along the way....

Geronimo Stilton

Timmy just loves reading.
He digests any kind of readings.

He likes to read: Geronimo Stilton, Wimpy Kids and Classic Starts series.
I am quite surprised at his reading speed.
As for me now, when I read 4 pages, I will fall asleep.  Hahahaha.
He can finish reading the whole book in just a few hours.

When I met up with Sisil, we chatted for 3 hours.
And Timmy finished reading the whole Stilton book in less than 3 hours.
Before our chit-chatting session was over, he has finished reading it. :)

Smoothies and Fruits

I've been making Green Smoothies for the past few days.
Trying to live healthier.
But I have to admit that the smoothies that I make, sometimes tastes weird.
Sometimes plain.   Well, that's because I made it with whatever is in stock in my fridge. Hahahaha.

The Green smoothies: Spinach, frozen banana, frozen papaya & orange.
The fruits: Watermelon and Rock-Melon.

It's like the traffic light: Red, Orange and Green.
Hahahaha.

Congklak

Introducing the boy to Indonesian traditional game: Congklak.

I used to play that when I was little.
The one that we played was the wooden version, with the real sea shells.
This time, it's made of plastic. Even the shells are made of plastics.

He had fun playing it though.
As for me, it's reviving those childhood memories. hahahaha.

Tim's Idea

Timmy's idea on how to prevent similar incident happening to MH 370.

1. Get the plane floating and contacting to the radar.

2. At the height of 1000 meter above the sea, the plane will activate the super large parachute on its own. The pilot doesn't have to control these systems.

3. At the height of 750 meter above sea level, the plane will take out super large inflated life saver with a motor to sea-transport using external fuel at the lifesaver. The lifesaver is equipped with Water Propeller with the speed of 100 KPH.

4. At the height of 500 meter above sea level, the plane will launch out the lifesaver.

5. When the lifesaver touch the sea, it will.settle a Plane-Pad for the plane to land.

6. When the plane lands on water safely, it will use its external radar to contact the HeadQuarters. The radar will contact the Head Quarter automatically.

Hahaha.

We were best buddies from Monash Uni days, in year 2000.
Yup! 14 years ago! How time flies.
She just came back from Japan.
As for me, I am a full time Mommy now.
So, this time with Timmy tagging along.

Timmy said that he wanted to meet and see Aunty Sisil, your best friend Mom.
"I wanna meet her", said Tim. :)

Kid's Day

...and Timmy said: "Mom, there's Mother's Day, there's Father's Day, is there any Kid's Day?" hahahaha...

When he read it, he asked: "What's the difference between International and Universal children day. Do they celebrate Children's day in the Universe too? Not just on earth?" Hahaha...
Me: "I don't know about that Tim. Hahaha Ah...you are my bundle of joy. "
Tim: "No Mom. I'm your bundle of questions. Hahaha." Me: "Hahahaha."

Andrea: Hehe well earth is in universe. Technically 20 nov is declared as children's day by united nations so that's why the name is universal children's day.

Timmy sure does asks a lot of questions. Heheheh.

Goodbye Samosir

Dad sang a song for Mom. :)

Another ferry boat passing by on the misty day, with mountain view at the back.

Batak Museum at Tomok

Babi Panggang Karo (BPK)

On the way to Tomok - Samosir & Babi Panggang with magnificent view.

Huta Siallagan

Entrance to King Siallagan Village - Samosir (Batak Toba)

This clan/kingdom is one of the 3 kingdom that were acknowledge by the Dutch Colonial in the 1600-1900.

The stoneworks and carving very similar to the Mayan or Aztec in South America.

The entrance is only wide enough for the biggest water buffalo in the village to pass for their defence. Also in the past, the frontage was planted with dense bamboo trees for privacy and protection.

The Batak House.

Batak Toba House is resembling a canoe. Why?
Canoe is important in their life and also in their philosophy to explore the world ("merantau").
It is therefore, the entrance of the house is in the front.

In constrast with Padang / Minang, the house. The house is based on a bull horn, hence the entrance is sideways like we look into the face of a bull horn.

The Batak house main door is small, just like in Yogyakarta Palace, it is purposely made so the guests must bow and show respect to the houseowner.

Each house usually consist of 3-6 families. Hence, the Batak Toba people is very open and expressive. If they like you or don't like you, they will say it.

The house has 3 levels.
Ground level is for livestock, middle is the living quarter, and the top is for storage and music instruments.

The boy is entering the traditional Batak house.
Inside the Batak House:

The house is open plan with the kitchen in the centre of the house.
This served a few purposes. One is to heat up the house.
The smoke from wood fire is also mosquito repellant.

The bataknese will sleep with their feet facing the fire. Only the King or head of the house will sleep on the wooden bed and wooden pillow.

In the corner of the house there is a section of the wood that are missing. This is a toilet to be used at night, but please aim before dump!

Listening attentively to the explanation of Ulos. :)

The king's bed & the wooden pillow

Why the shape of the roof is like a canoe?
The center of the house as a kitchen.

The kitchen and the smiley faces.

Aim properly before you dump!
That's the toilet hole, heading straight to the live-stock.

Ulos (Traditional Batak Cloth):

Traditionally Batak people made a piece of highly artistic and colourful cloth made of cotton called Ulos.

Ulos has many functions. It is a sarong for men and women, it is a blacket, it is a scarf, and also it is can be used as a mat for your head to carry heavy stuff in your head.

Look at how he put it on his head.

Various colorful Ulos for sale.

Symbol is front of the house:

1. Four-female breasts: shows fertility and emphasise on Bataknese to have 17 sons and 16 daughters. (poligamy of course, hence the 4 boobs)

2. Wind direction artwork: emphasise for all bataknese to explore the world. (Merantau).

3. Gecko: emphasise the high adaptability with everyone and everywhere just like gecko can be found almost anywhere.

4. A mask : to protect and repel the occupants in the house from black magic.

Ancient Batak Court:

It is so amazing that even in the stone age, the bataknese already have a court.

The rule of thumbs are:
1. if the crime irreversible (murder, adultery), the person will be beheaded.
2. if the crime reversible, such as stealing. The person have to return the item fourfolds.
3. if the crime is reversible, and the person is too poor to payback, then they will be the King's slave.

In this court, there are several chairs:
1. King's Chair (Judge)
2. Three chairs for elders
3. Shaman's Chair
4. Witness / Other King's Chair
5. Suspect

Schand Block:

Once the suspect have been judged guilty by court, the Shaman will forecast a good day for the beheading execution, and until then the suspect will be placed in Schand Block under the house together with the livefeeds.

Because he/she acts like animal in the irreversible crime, he is no longer recognised by the villagers as a human being. The legs will be tied onto a wood block and the villagers can do anything or throw anything to him/her.

Wish all corruptor and rapist will be punished like this.

Beheading, Cannibalism, and Black Magic:

Once the Shaman has decided a good day based on the Batak Calendar, the criminal will be fed the best meal, then the skin will be cut, and beheaded.

The blood, heart, and liver will be mixed with lime juice consumed by the King to increase his black magic power. The rest of the body cut into pieces and distributed among villagers to do whatever they want with it including eating it.
